At Camping & Caravaning Expo 2023, the second generation Amarok will debut. The versatile pickup truck from Volkswagen comes with excellent performance on asphalt roads and beyond. The equipment of the new model includes more than 20 new assistance systems, mobile online services and a modern range of high-efficiency engines with high torque. Two dual-drive technologies are available, a rich palette of additional accessories and a design that clearly reflects Volkswagen's brand DNA, which make the new Amarok one of the most versatile and well-balanced pickups in the world. The pickup was conceived and designed in Germany and Australia, and manufactured in South Africa.
With an overall length of 5,350 millimeters, the new Amarok is 96 millimeters longer than its predecessor, and its 3,270-millimeter wheelbase marks an increase of 173 millimeters. In this way, prerequisites are provided for more interior space, which is felt especially well on the second row of seats.
The off-road capabilities of the new Amarok, whose standard equipment includes a dual-drive system, have also been expanded by the significant increase in wading depth that the pick-up can overcome when crossing various bodies of water. Instead of the previous 500 millimeters, the second generation can safely pass through water obstacles with a depth of up to 800 millimeters.
Remarkable space is offered by the so-called Cargo-Box – the cargo space of the pickup truck behind the cabin. As with the previous generation, the distance between the fender housings in the cargo area offers enough space for a Euro pallet to be placed across. The cargo compartment has rings for reliable fastening of the load, each of which can withstand up to 500 kilograms. To meet these impressive load capacities, the maximum payload of the new model has been increased from the previous one tonne to 1.16 tonnes. The contents of the Cargo-Box can be secured with a roll-top cover with an electric mechanism that enables opening and closing both from the cargo compartment itself and via a button in the cabin or remotely using the car key.
A very interesting option for travelers is the ability to statically load the roof up to 350 kilograms – this is quite enough to use the four-seater tent that will be offered as an additional accessory for this model. At the Camping & Caravaning Expo 2023, visitors will have the opportunity to see this first hand, as the Amarok Aventura on display will have a Balkan Overlanding tent installed.
The new Amarok comes with three turbodiesel (TDI) engines, with all three units distinguished by their efficiency and high torque. The first power offer is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI with 125 kW (170 hp), and at the second level of the TDI units, the range of the new Amarok offers a four-cylinder biturbo engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters with a maximum output of 151 kW (205 hp) The new top diesel version is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine that will produce 177 kW (241 hp).
All versions of the Amarok with an output of 151 kW and up will debut on the market with a new, 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic (by wire) E-Shifter as standard equipment. In addition to it, the range of transmissions of the new generation Amarok also includes a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Amarok comes with a dual transmission system (4MOTION) included as standard equipment. Two different 4MOTION systems are available – the first with the ability to engage the dual transmission depending on the situation, and the second with permanent four-wheel drive. These advanced drive technologies ensure that the new Amarok can handle any terrain and, depending on the engine version, can tow trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
The official premiere of Amarok is expected on the Bulgarian market in the second half of 2023.
